

Three kilometers from Matala, the beach of Kommos guarantees abundant space for anyone who decides to visit. The length is 4km long. Visitors may choose either the organized part with parasols, deck chairs and a canteen for refreshment, or the more isolated and quiet spots some of which are preferred by nudists.
About 3km from Matala, there is one more beach to be chosen by the visitor. Kommos beach lies with a length of many kilometers, which guarantees the lack of crowds and the abundant space for those who want to enjoy the sea, while it is also ideal for a romantic afternoon walk and watch the beautiful sunset.
The beach is also a protected biotope for the nesting of the loggerhead turtle (Caretta caretta) therefore visitors, must be really careful and respect the relevant signs.
Leaving Kommos, the excavation of the ancient port can be seen, but not accessed as works are still in progress, while ascending it is worth a visit to the picturesque church of Agios Panteleimonas with its breathtaking view.
